Be Alert Bruins Day

Stay Alive – Don’t Text and Drive!

Be Alert Bruins Day - Stay Alive, Don't Text and Drive!UCLA Transportation, UCPD and UCLA Insurance & Risk Management are partnering with Allstate Insurance to host Be Alert Bruins Day in Wilson Plaza on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The event will focus on the dangers of distracted driving with an emphasis on cellphone use and texting. Students, staff and faculty are invited to attend.

The event will include information booths and a driver simulator presented by Reality Rides and sponsored by Allstate Insurance, which has been touring the country with the simulator to promote driver safety. Participants will be able to operate the simulator and experience how texting while driving can have devastating consequences.

Distracted driving is a deadly behavior and consistently ranks as the top traffic safety issue that concerns most drivers. A recent study showed teen drivers were distracted almost 25% of the time they were behind the wheel. Over 70% of young people admit to texting while driving, resulting in thousands of deaths each year. Managing apps, texting and reading emails were among the biggest distractions.
UCLA is one of the most densely populated campuses in the country, boasting more than 44,000 students and over 31,000 faculty and staff. As motorists drive on campus and in their own communities, it is extremely important for everyone to be aware of their surroundings at all times. The Be Alert Bruins Day event is another way the University supports the safety of our campus community.
