UC CORE PLUS™ Driver Safety Training

At the heart of the UC CORE PLUS™ Driver Safety Training Program is the intention to prevent and mitigate auto collisions on UC campuses and medical facilities. By focusing on defensive driving principles, this program is designed to ensure that every person driving in support of University of California research, teaching and public service is able to do so in a safe manner.

For most drivers, the UC CORE PLUS™ Driver Safety Training requires the completion of core training, in addition to at least one Plus Module for every category of vehicle they drive. The recommended curriculum encompasses three mandatory training areas, plus an elective:

  • Vehicle Inspections
  • Defensive Driving
  • Collisions, Breakdowns and Other Mishaps
  • Behind-the-Wheel Evaluation (elective)

UCLA uses the Smith System® to apply the UC CORE PLUS™ guidelines.

The members of the UC Driver & Vehicle Safety Workgroup are confident that the CORE PLUS™ Driver Safety Training Program will help reduce/prevent injury and loss of life, raise the skill level of UC drivers and provide a solid foundation of knowledge about advanced driving safety principles.

We look forward to watching the collective knowledge and expertise of this program provide a safer driving experience for the University at large.
