Who is covered under the UC Travel policy?

University travelers include employees, medical residents, students, fellows, and guests with travel paid by the University.  Personal travel such as vacation travel, is not covered by the UC Travel program.

Grand Opening: Ergonomics Lab

IRM has opened its new Ergonomics Lab in the Wilshire Center featuring a 90-square foot demo office, cutting edge ergonomics equipment, and the latest in furniture and modular design. The lab also showcases how open spaces can be redesigned into ergonomically comfortable and inviting collaborative work spaces and cubicles.

Presentation of UCLA’s Business Continuity Program at DRI 2019

The Disaster Recovery Institute International (DRII) holds a yearly conference for business continuity leaders across the globe to go in-depth on specialized business continuity topics ranging from technology recovery to risk and resilience.

UCLA co-presented the unique business continuity planning environment in higher education with Yale University.  Key takeaways included establishing work relationships before an event and keeping people informed and up-to-date.

UCLA Library IT Wins IRM’s Circle of Excellence Award

Congratulations to the UCLA Library IT Disaster Recovery Team as the Fall Circle of Excellence Winners.

As the inaugural department to complete their IT Disaster Recovery plans in UC Ready, they established an alternate disaster recovery site, ITDR teams, and recovery procedures.

New UC Field Operations Manual Now Available

The UC Center of Excellence for Field Research Safety has developed a new Field Operations Safety Manual  to provide guidelines and resources to lead safe, successful field courses and research trips. The content focuses on risk management issues that are relevant for California-based field courses and research, international trips, research expeditions, and other outdoor excursions.

Be Alert Bruins: Share the Road Safety Quiz and Prize Drawing

Remember, Share the Road…Bruins are Everywhere!

More than 75,000 people travel on campus each weekday, including staff, faculty, students, patients and visitors. A population that large means there are a variety of transportation modes sharing the same roadways, such as cars, trucks,  buses, motorcycles, bikes and more. In addition, the substantial increase in the use of electric scooters and ride-hailing services like Lyft and Uber on campus means whether someone’s in a vehicle, on a bike or scooter, or simply walking, it’s important to share the road.

Winter Break Claims Reporting: Workers’ Compensation and Auto, Property, & General Liability

The Office of Insurance & Risk Management (IRM) will be closed from December 25, 2017 to January 1, 2018.

During the closure, please use our third party claims administrator’s convenient telephonic claims center. Customer Service representatives are available to take your calls 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our office will continue to receive electronic notification of all claims within 24 hours or less, and where appropriate, contact the department representatives.

Be Alert Bruins Day

Stay Alive – Don’t Text and Drive!

UCLA Transportation, UCPD and UCLA Insurance & Risk Management are partnering with Allstate Insurance to host Be Alert Bruins Day in Wilson Plaza on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The event will focus on the dangers of distracted driving with an emphasis on cellphone use and texting. Students, staff and faculty are invited to attend.

Business continuity planning ensures that the University is able to continue its most important work with as little of disruption as possible when unexpected events occur.
